The Secret to Your Best Tan Ever... Hint: It’s All in the Prep

We’ve all seen a tan that looks a little "lived in" around the elbows or patchy on the ankles... and let's be honest, that is not the vibe we’re going for. If you want a polished, seamless finish that makes you feel like the best version of yourself, the magic happens before you even step into my Pukekohe studio.

Think of your skin like a canvas. If the canvas is bumpy or dry, the paint won't sit right... it’s exactly the same with spray tanning. Follow these essential steps to ensure you’re feeling ready for your next event.

Your Pre-Tan Checklist

  • Exfoliate Like You Mean It... This is the most important step. Use a high-quality exfoliant (I always recommend the Ed and I Exfoliant) to slough off dead skin cells at least 24 hours before your appointment. This creates a smooth surface for the tan to grab onto.

  • Hair Removal Timing... Whether you prefer to shave or wax, make sure you do it at least 24 hours before your tan. Shaving right before your appointment can leave your pores open... leading to those tiny dark dots we all want to avoid.

  • Hydrate from the Inside Out... Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your booking. Hydrated skin holds tan much longer and fades more evenly than dry, thirsty skin.

  • Arrive with a "Naked" Canvas... On the day of your tan, please arrive with zero barriers on your skin. That means no deodorant, no perfume, and definitely no moisturizer. These products act like a shield... preventing the tan from developing properly.

  • The Ultimate Upgrade... If you want to take your results to the next level, ask about the Mix Sunless Hydro Prep. This pre-treatment balances your skin’s pH and adds a massive boost of hydration right before we spray... ensuring a flawlessly polished look that lasts.

Why Prep Actually Saves You Money

When you prep properly, your tan doesn't just look better... it lasts longer. By removing the old skin and balancing your hydration, you’re ensuring the tan fades off evenly rather than patching. It’s the difference between a tan that looks great for three days and one that keeps you looking polished for over a week.
