The short answer? About 7 to 10 days. But if you’re looking for the long answer (the one that keeps you looking polished and ready for a full week of events), there are a few factors that determine whether your tan stays flawless or starts to "crack" early.

The Timeline of Your Tan
Days 1–3: The Peak... This is when your tan is at its absolute best. It’s fresh, deep, and perfectly even.
Days 4–6: The Maintenance Phase... You might notice a slight softening of the colour. This is the crucial time to keep your skin hydrated to prevent any premature patchiness.
Days 7–10: The Natural Fade... Your skin naturally regenerates every 28 days, but the top layer (where the tan sits) sheds much faster. By day 10, your tan will start to lift as your skin cells turn over.
3 Reasons Your Tan Might Be Ghosting You Early

Hot Showers & Long Soaks... I know, a long hot bath is the dream, but it’s a nightmare for your tan. Heat and prolonged water exposure soften the skin, causing it to shed faster. Keep your showers quick and lukewarm to preserve the life of your tan.
The "Wrong" Products... Using soaps or moisturisers with heavy oils, alcohols, or "sloughing" ingredients (like AHAs or Salicylic Acid) will literally strip your tan off. Stick to tan-safe, hydrating products to keep everything looking smooth.
Tight Clothing Post-Tan... For the first 24 hours while your tan is developing, friction is the enemy. Opt for loose, dark clothing and avoid anything with tight straps or waistbands that could rub the pigment away before it’s set.
